ProArte ends its season with a program devoted to romance: the rapture of new love, the melancholy of lovers parted, the tender laments for those remembered in elegy, the joy of wedded love. Romance is celebrated in art and in dance. Likewise, romantic love is an ever-familiar theme in music. While many are eager to praise love’s delights, we also do well to reflect on its sadness or regrets? An entertaining and thoughtful program filled with beautiful singing by one of Ohio’s premier professional vocal ensembles, the performance invites each listener to come away and enjoy an afternoon with ProArte as it explores the profound feelings associated with romance and love through partsongs, French chanson, and familiar folksongs from the British Isles.
